USA – Clemens Food Group is in the process of shutting down its Kunzler plant in Pennsylvania, which will result in approximately 193 employees losing their jobs.
This move aligns with the company’s decision to halt production for all remaining contracted customers.
In May, Clemens Food Group acquired Kunzler & Company, which added a facility in Lancaster and two more in Tyrone township to its operations.
Following the announcement of the closure, the company provided a WARN Notice to employees, specifying the final day of operations for the facility.
The Kunzler plant, located at 652 Manor Street, is expected to stay closed until a new owner is found, with operations slated to cease on December 7.
Discussions with a potential buyer are reportedly ongoing.
Despite the closure, Clemens Food Group plans to continue producing Kunzler-branded products.
Earlier this month, the company disclosed plans to move Kunzler’s production away from Lancaster, which included eliminating nine positions.
Additionally, production of Kunzler and Hatfield branded franks has been shifted to a co-packer, leading to a decrease in production and fewer delivery routes.
As a result of these changes, Clemens terminated contracts with nine employees affiliated with Teamsters Local Union No.
Founded in 1895, Clemens Food Group is a sixth-generation, family-owned company headquartered in Hatfield, Pennsylvania.
With a workforce of over 5,000 employees, it ranks as the fifth-largest pork processor in the United States.
Clemens owns several well-known pork brands, such as Hatfield, Farm Promise, Premium Reserve, and Prima Porta.
Last year, the company sold one of its factories to Godshall’s Quality Meats, a turkey bacon producer based in the U.S.
This decision was part of Clemens’ strategy to streamline operations while fostering growth and diversification within the industry.
In terms of financials, Clemens Food Group reported a consistent annual revenue of US$1.55 billion in 2024.
