Coca-Cola Al Ahlia, Emerge launch 1.8 MW solar power plant in UAE

UAE – Cola Al Ahlia Beverages Company, in collaboration with Emerge, a joint venture between UAE’s Masdar and France’s EDF Group, has inaugurated a 1.8-megawatt solar power plant at its production facility in Al Ain, UAE.

This initiative underscores the company’s commitment to renewable energy adoption and environmental sustainability, aligning with the UAE’s Green Agenda 2030.

The newly operational solar power plant is designed to provide clean and renewable energy to the production facility, reducing dependence on traditional energy sources and significantly lowering carbon emissions.

Advanced technologies such as bifacial panels, sophisticated inverters, and smart monitoring systems have been integrated into the project, making it a regional benchmark for energy innovation.

The solar plant is expected to offset approximately 1,566 metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually, equivalent to powering over 300 homes for a year.

It will also reduce oil consumption by more than 3,600 barrels annually, further contributing to environmental conservation efforts.

Commenting on the initiative, His Excellency Osama Amir Fadhel, Assistant Undersecretary for the Industrial Accelerators Sector at the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, emphasized the project’s alignment with the UAE’s National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology, Operation 300 Billion.

This strategy focuses on industrial growth while advancing climate neutrality through the adoption of sustainable practices and cutting-edge technologies.

Banu Karakullukcu, CEO of Coca-Cola Al Ahlia Beverages Company, stated, “We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practices across our operations.

The installation of solar panels at our Al Ain plant is a testament to our shift towards renewable energy. Partnering with Emerge allows us to bring this vision to life and support the UAE’s Green Agenda.

This project sets a strong example, and we are eager to implement similar initiatives at our other plants in the region.”

The first phase of the solar project now meets 18 percent of the plant’s total energy needs, with plans to expand this contribution.

Phase two, scheduled for completion later this year, will add an additional 5 percent, bringing the total solar energy contribution to 23 percent.

Under the partnership, Emerge will operate and maintain the solar power plant for the next 25 years, ensuring its long-term efficiency and reliability.
