KENYA – Coca-Cola Beverages Africa in Kenya has unveiled a new Minute Maid  packaged in Tetra Pak’s carton packaging which has a superior environmental profile compared to PET bottles currently used for the juices.

“Our new Tetra pak packaging provides a lightweight and easy-to-carry option for those on-the-go, making it the perfect, and most convenient choice for busy individuals, families, and for consumers looking for a healthy alternative in juices,” CCBA Kenya said in a statement.

Packaging in laminated carton was long overdue as other brands in the juice segment such as Delmonte, Fruitville, Go Fruit, and Pick n Peel all have variants available in laminated cartons.

Coca-Cola’s recent push aligns with the company’s world without waste goal where it aims to have 100% of its packaging recyclable by 2025 and hope to use 50% recycled material in its packaging by 2030.

The current product follows the unveiling of its first-ever beverage bottle made from 100% plant-based plastic, excluding the cap and label in 2021.

Coca-Cola at the time said that the prototype bottle comes more than a decade after the company’s PlantBottle™ debuted as the world’s first recyclable PET plastic bottle made with up to 30% plant-based material.

The Atlanta-based maker of Coke and Fanta has been making other moves on the packaging front in an effort to beat its world without waste goal of having all its products recyclable.

Just recently, the company partnered with Berry to launch PET bottles with tethered caps for its carbonated soft drinks in Europe.

The tethered caps are designed to remain intact with the bottle – making it less likely to be littered and more likely to be recycled.

They feature tamper-evident band that, once broken, does not impact the closure’s ability to remain attached and is positioned out of the way for drinking but can easily be reclosed.

Back to Minute Maid, the company promises customers the same “nutritious, refreshing and delicious juice drink” only that it will now be available in a convenient Tetra pak packaging.

“Made with only the highest-quality ingredients, our juices are the perfect addition for the health-conscious consumers seeking to break their daily routine and indulge in juices that provide an enlivening sensorial experience, a refreshing pick-me-up any time of day,” said CCBA.

Available in Apple, Mango and Tropical flavours, Minute Maid Tetra pak is now available at Naivas supermarkets, the largest supermarket in the region.
