Corbion completes new clean-label vinegar facility in Netherlands

EUROPE – The Dutch food and bio-chemicals company, Corbion has completed the construction of a state-of-the-art production facility in Gorinchem, Netherlands for the production of non-GMO powdered vinegar.

The expanded production site enhances its capabilities in producing vinegar-based solutions to meet customer demand for alternative products to synthetic ingredients.

According to the company, the Verdad range of solutions, developed with vinegars, ferment blends, and other functional ingredients enables the production of ingredients based on consumer tastes and preferences.

The products are said to have an extended shelf life, improve yields and improve safety while providing high quality products.

“Corbion’s powdered vinegar solutions are consistently proving highly effective in preserving safety and shelf life in a wide range of foods.

“They help manufacturers respond to consumers who prefer products with ingredients they understand,” said Ruud Peerbooms, senior vice-president of food at Corbion.

We want to continue leveraging our expertise in natural fermentation processes and developing even better ways to use vinegar’s potential as a natural preservative.

“Bringing much of our vinegar production in-house will allow us greater efficiency and control in doing that.”

Meeting sustainable and clean-label need

The investment not only expands Corbion’s capacity and capabilities in offering quality solutions, but also enhances its ability to supply sustainable, clean-label solutions for food applications.

The company launched Verdad MP100, a vinegar-based mold inhibitor to meet growing consumer demand and development of new clean-label innovations.

The product’s range provides natural solutions as alternative to traditional synthetic correlatives without undermining product quality.

The new, naturally derived preservative is not the first clean label mold inhibitor to reach the market, but it is the first to equal the performance of calcium propionate without adversely affecting product flavor.

“The consumer-driven clean-label movement is not a trend anymore. It’s here to stay,” said Peerbooms.
