Crown Beverages partners with Reclaim to launch plastic waste collection centre in Uganda

The facility is expected to recycle 40 tonnes of plastic monthly while supporting Uganda’s broader waste management efforts.

UGANDA – Crown Beverages Limited (CBL) has launched a plastic waste collection centre in Hoima City in collaboration with Reclaim, a recycling company specialising in plastic waste.

The initiative marks a significant step towards improving environmental sustainability in the region and forms part of a wider national campaign to promote responsible plastic waste management.

The newly opened centre is designed to serve as a hub for the collection, sorting, and transportation of plastic waste for recycling.

It is expected to recycle up to 40 tonnes of plastic bottles and polythene waste from Hoima every month, helping to reduce the volume of plastic pollution in the area.

At the launch event, CBL Commercial Manager Rogers Anguzu noted that the partnership with Reclaim reflects the company’s enduring commitment to sustainable development.

He stated that the initiative is an investment in a cleaner and safer future for Uganda and the environment at large.

Anguzu added that the centre is part of CBL’s broader Tweyambe program, which promotes community involvement in environmental sustainability. He revealed that similar centres are planned for Mbale and Kampala, with the goal of eventually covering the entire country.

Hoima City Deputy Mayor Sylvia Nalumaga Balyesiima welcomed the initiative, highlighting the city’s struggle with waste management due to rapid population growth linked to oil sector development.

She expressed optimism that the project would significantly contribute to maintaining a cleaner environment in Hoima and its surrounding areas.

Reclaim Chief Executive Officer Zerubbabel Junior Kwebiiha said the centre will be pivotal in addressing plastic pollution across the Bunyoro region through efficient waste handling and recycling.

Last month, CBL also partnered with Uganda WastePays to mark Global Recycling Day by intensifying its sustainable waste management efforts.

The company has adopted digital tracking systems for PET collection to enhance monitoring and efficiency.

In addition, CBL is investing in school-based recycling programs and public awareness campaigns aimed at educating youth and communities on environmental responsibility and plastic waste reduction.
