USA – Darling Ingredients Inc., the world’s leading company that turns food waste into sustainable products, has announced intentions to expand the receiving and processing capacity of its rendering facility in Bellevue Nebraska.
The decision follows a recent agreement for the company to purchase the off-take from the new Cattleman’s Heritage Beef Co beef processing company which will be constructed in Mills County, Iowa and will have the capacity to process 2,000 head of cattle per day.
Cattleman’s Heritage intends to provide a market for cattle raised by smaller, independent cattle producers with this new facility.
The construction of the site is anticipated to begin in mid-2023 and will cost about US$520 million.
It will start operations in 2024 and is expected to create more than 800 jobs in Mills County. It also has a projected to have economic gain for Iowa of up to US$8 billion, over the next five years.
Darling Ingredients’ facilities process edible byproducts and food waste into sustainable products and also produce renewable energy.
The deal with Cattleman’s Heritage will further strengthen Darling Ingredients’ ability to deliver high-quality protein, as global demand continues to increase, according to the company’s CEO and chairman Randall Stuewe.
The company repurposes approximately 15% of the world’s meat industry waste streams into green energy, renewable diesel, collagen, fertilizer, animal proteins and meals and pet food ingredients.
“It will also provide additional feedstock for our renewable diesel production and our recently announced investment in sustainable aviation fuel production.
