Del Monte Kenya cuts ribbon to its 6-bed holding room to curb spread of corona virus within its facility

KENYA – Leading fruit processor in Kenya, Del Monte has been undertaking different activities and deploying a range of resources within and beyond its business premises, aimed to curb the spread of the corona virus and mitigate its effects since its outbreak in the country.

Recently the processor has launched a 6-bed holding room to be used in the event of employees exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, before they are referred to government health facilities for further treatment.

This according to the company’s Facebook post is in response to the Ministry of Health recommendations on COVID-19 management.

In addition, reports have also emerged that the country’s COVID-19 designated treatment hospitals are getting overwhelmed with patients thus the new facility is likely to be used as a treatment center as well.

Other measures undertaken by Del monte to ensure safety of its employees and other personnel within its industry include ramping up hygienic standards by increasing cleaning frequency of the factor, having more hand-washing stations and sanitizers at each department and company premises.

Social distancing as one of the protocols recommended by the World Health Organization, has also been instituted at the company coupled with the installation of shields between the factory operators while at the processing area.

Del Monte Kenya, majorly undertaking the cultivation, production, and processing pineapples into juice and canned products has also donated food stuffs in different parts of the country.

Through Thika District Business Association (TDBA), the company donated some foodstuff and a water bowser to distribute water across Thika, its area of operation.

Also, it donated canned pineapples worth Kshs 1 Million (US$9,392), to feed the frontline health workers and patients at Kenyatta National Hospital’s (KNH) and Mbagathi Infectious Disease Units.

Supporting the Kenyan government and community organizations’ efforts, Delmonte contributed Kshs 4 million (US$37, 569) worth of support to Kiambu County COVID–19 Emergency Fund.

The company has pledged to continue supporting the national and local governments, communities, employees and other institutions in the fight against Covid-19.
