DENMARK – The Danish Fishers PO (DFPO), representing over 550 fishing vessels, has officially joined Europêche, a significant European fishing industry organization.

DFPO’s director, Kenn Skau Fischer, expressed his enthusiasm about this new affiliation.

“Joining Europêche is a significant step for us, especially during these challenging times for the fishing community. This membership offers us a more robust platform to represent the interests and concerns of Danish fishers on a European scale. Our accumulated expertise and experience will significantly contribute to Europêche’s ongoing efforts to advocate for policies that balance the needs of the fishing industry with the sustainability of marine ecosystems,” said Fischer.

He also highlighted their eagerness to both contribute to and benefit from the extensive knowledge and experience shared among Europêche’s members.

This membership was formally acknowledged during Europêche’s General Assembly in Brussels, where members endorsed and warmly welcomed DFPO, marking a pivotal moment in fortifying the collective voice of the European fisheries sector.

DFPO’s membership not only enhances the representation of a substantial fleet but also underscores its vital role in Denmark’s coastal and local communities.

The organization supports approximately 16,000 jobs and generates an impressive €1.8 billion (US$1.96B) in economic activity.

DFPO advocates for a diverse range of fisheries, including inshore, industrial, bottom net, Norway lobster, and mussel fisheries, representing both small and large vessels.

Europêche’s managing director, Daniel Voces, shared his excitement about DFPO’s inclusion.

“We are thrilled to welcome DFPO into the Europêche family. Their participation will undoubtedly strengthen our collective voice and enhance our efforts to support and advocate for the European fishing industry,” commented Voces.
