SOUTH AFRICA – Diageo South Africa has announced the appointment of Andrew Ross as the new General Manager, Southern Africa and Indian Ocean unit, effective 1 January 2024.

Before this appointment, Andrew was the Managing Director of Diageo’s business unit: Africa Emerging Markets (AEM).

Andrew joined Diageo in 2018 as a Managing Director for Guinness Cameroon, bringing a wealth of experience from his 20 years spent with SABMiller where he held several senior leadership roles in South Africa, Zambia, and Nigeria, as well as a period with Dashen Breweries in Ethiopia.

“Andrew is known for his abundant energy and has significant experience in turning around business performance while growing people, brands, and businesses in a sustainable way. We are delighted to have Andrew in this role and leading the team in unlocking growth in Southern Africa and Indian Ocean,” read the company statement.

In November, Diageo appointed John Musunga as Managing Director, a Kenyan international business executive, to lead its Africa’s newly formed South, West, and Central (SWC) market.

Musunga was formerly head of Guiness Nigeria since October 2022 and a non-executive director at East African Breweries Limited (EABL).

The appointment was part of a new operating model that saw the beverage giant reorganize its operating region into three markets in the region: EABL, that remained unchanged; Guiness Nigeria, marketing beer and mainstream spirits, and the new SWC hub.
