Diageo’s Crown Royal ventures into single-malt whisky category

US – Diageo-owned Crown Royal, renowned for its blends and flavors, is making entry into the single malt whisky category with the launch of Crown Royal Single Malt Canadian Whisky.

Distilled at Valleyfield Distillery, the new product is marketed under the slogan “Cut from the Cold,” highlighting its unique Canadian heritage.

Jesse Damashek, Senior Vice President of North American Whiskeys at Diageo, emphasized the innovation behind this launch.

“As a leader in whisky, we’re shaking up the category with this innovation – defined by our signature smoothness and unique Canadian origin,” he said.

“Our take on this single malt is truly distinct. Every piece of it tells a story – from its origin and distillation process to its stunning packaging design.”

Crown Royal Single Malt is bottled at 45% ABV and priced at US$55.

The whisky promises a rich profile with notes of creamy vanilla and fruity banana, evolving into flavors of caramel, apple, and baking spices, and finishing with lingering hints of spice and warm cinnamon.

Despite Crown Royal being the number-one Canadian whisky brand selling globally, its plans to build a new distillery in St. Clair Township, Ontario, have seen delays.

Announced in March 2022, the construction of the new facility was slated to begin later that year and be completed by 2025. However, according to The Sarnia Journal, as of March this year, no building work had commenced.
