Diary manufacturer Carbery Group launches new cheese brand for food ingredient and service sectors

GLOBAL – Carbery Group, global manufacturer of nutritional dairy ingredients and flavour company, has launched a new cheese brand for the food ingredient and foodservice sectors in Europe and Asia.

The company says its cheeses have a varied flavour profile and a high level of functionality, such as sliceability, good melting or low browning characteristics, and more. The range also has multiple applications, including pizza, baking, ready meals, sauces, seasonings and snacks.

The range will include natural cheddar, ‘Cheese Extra’ – a functional, reduced-fat cheese – speciality cheeses and a new line up of pasta filata, including mozzarella and grilling cheese.

In 2018, Carbery announced its plans to diversify its cheese portfolio into pasta filata in order to target new markets with its new products and applications, including significant expansion in Asia.

The expansion was underpinned by a €78 million (US$92.32m) investment in a new facility in West Cork, which is now almost complete. The output is set to increase from just over 50,000 tonnes to 64,000 tonnes annually.

Carbery Group is celebrating production of the first block of mozzarella cheese from their brand new plant at Ballineen, Ireland.

The European Investment Bank agreed to provide a €35 million (US$41.43m) loan to enable expansion and diversification of the Ireland-based facilities of Carbery Group for significantly expanded cheese production.

“That Carbery has secured the first ever European Investment Bank financing for an Irish Agri Foods business is a vote of confidence in Carbery and Irish agriculture.” said Jason Hawkins, Chief Executive Officer, Carbery Group in December, 2019, when the investment was announced.

To support the cheese expansion and diversification, the group has also launched its new brand, Carbery Dairy.
