Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke appointed Director General of Standards Organisation of Nigeria

NIGERIA – President Bola Tinubu has named Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke as the new Director General of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).

Dr. Okeke, a distinguished fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.

His academic journey is adorned with achievements, including a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy, a Master of Science in Accounting, a Doctor of Philosophy in Accounting, and a Master of Business Administration.

These accolades were earned from esteemed institutions like Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka and the University of Nigeria in Nsukka.

Dr. Okeke’s professional voyage has been nothing short of stellar, with significant contributions in both public and private sectors.

His roles as a Tax Executive, Financial Consultant, and Tax Manager have been testament to his exceptional leadership, negotiation skills, budgeting prowess, and credit analysis capabilities.

Notably, he served as the Interim Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Imo State Internal Revenue Service, where his leadership saw a remarkable increase in internally generated revenue from 700 million naira (U.S$ 915.5 thousand) to over 2 billion naira (U.S$ 2.6 million) monthly.

In his new position, Dr. Okeke will be at the helm of SON’s day-to-day administration, executing directives from the Council.

His role extends to advising the Council in formulating, implementing, and reviewing national policies on standardization, quality control, and metrology. Moreover, he will play a pivotal role in coordinating the activities of Directors, initiating investigations, and representing SON both nationally and internationally.

Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke’s appointment as Director General heralds the arrival of a seasoned professional known for transformative leadership.

His commitment to excellence, financial acumen, and strategic vision position him as a valuable asset to SON, aligning seamlessly with the organization’s mission and objectives.

“I have received the baton of stewardship today; I must take full control of activities of the organisation, while taking directives from my superiors, the Standards Council and the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment,” he said.

“My immediate priority will be to review the hand-over notes to address the areas of concern towards achieving our objectives timely.”
