DSM-Firmenich completes mega-merger, appoints Dimitri de Vreeze as CEO of new trading entity

NETHERLANDS – DSM and Firmenich have appointed Dimitri de Vreeze to be the new CEO of the enlarged business company, DSM-Firmenich, which was born out of the mega-merger between the two ingredient giants.

The completion of a mega-merger has combined their capabilities bringing along a team of nearly 30,000 employees, a combined revenue of more than €12bn, and what its decision-makers describe as ‘unparalleled’ capabilities built on more than a century of ‘cutting-edge’ science.

Ralf Schmeitz will become the new chief financial officer and will join the executive board effective September 1.

DSM is a global science-based company in health, nutrition, and biosciences with solutions for animal nutrition, human nutrition & care, and food & beverage.

The Dutch company has a purpose of creating brighter lives for all, which it notes achieving through developing products and solutions that address some of the world’s biggest challenges while simultaneously creating economic, environmental, and societal value.

Meanwhile, Firmenich is a private Swiss company in the fragrance and flavor business. It employs 10,000 people across 46 manufacturing plants and six research and development centers.

In May 2022, two major ingredients players–DSM and Firmenich–announced plans to create an ‘industry leader’ via a ‘merger of equals,’ to combine their respective strengths across the flavors, fragrances, and nutritional ingredients segments.

“I’m so happy that, after 12 months of hard work, we now can finally say that a new company has emerged. This is Day 1, we are now part of a new company called DSM-Firmenich,” Ivo Lansbergen, president of DSM-Firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health said at the DSM World Nutrition Forum.

DSM-Firmenich will be composed of four business units: Animal Nutrition & Health, delivering healthy animal proteins efficiently and sustainably, harnessing the power of data to make animal farming practices more sustainable, productive, and transparent.

Health, Nutrition & Care, provides people a way to look after their health by adding critical nutrients to their diet.

Taste, Texture & Health, helping customers create food and beverage products that are delicious, nutritious, affordable, and sustainable.

Perfumery & Beauty, creating fragrances using the best and largest palette of natural, synthetic, and biotech ingredients.

“The brand reflects the company’s purpose and values and is the expression of a shared identity. The brand symbolizes the company’s mission to combine what is essential for life, desirable for consumers, and more sustainable for the planet,” the company said in a press release.

“The purpose of DSM-Firmenich is to bring progress to life, together with customers and partners, to achieve positive change and make a difference in the world.”
