KENYA –  East African Breweries Limited (EABL) has confirmed the resignation of John Musunga as a Director, effective March 18, 2025.

“The Board takes this opportunity to thank John for his vibrant, and insightful contributions in the deliberations of the Board as well as the Corporate Governance Committee meetings, and his exemplary commitment to consumers and the community. The Board wishes John the very best for the future,” EABL said in a notice.

Musunga, who has served on the board since July 2023, is currently the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Guinness Nigeria, a role he has held since October 2022.

Before joining Diageo in March 2021 as Managing Director of Kenya Breweries Limited, Musunga held various senior leadership positions at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) across multiple regions, including South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, and Belgium.

With nearly three decades of strategic and managerial experience, Musunga is widely recognized as an accomplished business leader.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Nairobi and a Master’s in Business Administration from the United States International University (USIU)-Africa.

Alongside Musunga’s resignation, EABL has appointed Lorna Benton as a Non-Executive Director, also effective March 18, 2025.

According to EABL, Benton’s appointment received approval from the Capital Markets Authority, in compliance with the Capital Markets (Securities) (Public Offers, Listing, and Disclosures) Regulations, 2023.

Meanwhile, EABL reported a 19.6 percent increase in net profit for the first half of FY25, reaching Kes 8.1 billion (US$62.67M), driven by lower debt and foreign exchange gains.

The company’s revenue rose by 2 percent to Kes 67.9 billion (US$525.3M), compared to Kes 66.5 billion (US$514.5M) in the same period the previous year.
