Egypt’s food exports record 17% growth in 2024, hits US$5.5B

EGYPT – Egypt’s food export sector is witnessing substantial growth, with total exports reaching US$5.5 billion between January and November 2024. 

This figure represents a 17% increase compared to US$4.7 billion during the same period in 2023, an additional US$813 million in export value.

This period marked the highest export value and growth rate ever recorded within these months. 

The total surpassed the US$5.068 billion reported for all of 2023, a US$474 million increase.

Arab nations remained Egypt’s leading market, accounting for US$2.936 billion or 53% of total food exports, with a 15% rise in value. 

The European Union followed with US$1.083 billion in exports, comprising 20% of the total and registering a 33% growth rate.

Non-Arab African countries imported US$464 million, representing 8% of total exports with a 7% increase, while the United States purchased US$302 million worth of food products, constituting 5% of the total and achieving a 40% growth rate. 

Other global markets contributed $756 million, 14% of the total, reflecting an 8% rise.

Among individual countries, Saudi Arabia emerged as the largest importer, with purchases worth US$434 million, a 16% increase. 

Sudan imported US$363 million, though this marked a 20% decline. 

The United States ranked third, with US$302 million in imports showing 40% growth.

Libya imported US$290 million, up 19%, while Palestine bought US$275 million, a 26% rise.

The Netherlands saw imports valued at US$241 million, recording the highest growth rate of 104%. 

Morocco followed, with $201 million in imports, reflecting an 80% increase.

Key exported products included concentrates for soft drinks, which generated US$502 million, growing by 5%. 

Flour and groats contributed US$428 million, increasing by 7%, while frozen strawberries earned US$364 million, a 13% growth. 

Sugar exports reached US$357 million but declined by 21%. 

Edible oils surged by 169% to US$283 million, while frozen potatoes jumped 904% to US$204 million.

Over the past decade, Egypt’s cumulative food exports have reached US$40.5 billion, highlighting its increasing role in the international market.
