IRELAND – Swiss-based laboratory instrumentation and automation supplier Endress+Hauser Group has opened a new operations center in Ireland to support its worldwide logistics network.
According to a statement from the group, the center will be manned by a team of logistics specialists who will oversee day-to-day operation for smooth and sustainable movement of goods.
The company said moving logistic management in-house became necessary because of the added complexities arising from an expanded portfolio of carriers and forwarding companies.
Headquartered in Reinach, Switzerland, the group has sales companies in more than 50 countries as well as representatives in another 70 countries.
It also has production facilities in 4 continents and employs about 15,000 people worldwide.
With such an expanded scale, Thorsten Wilkening, Head of Corporate Logistics believes that expeditious decisions in Global supply and sales networks would be effectively made by people in the same room.
Oliver Blum, Corporate Director Supply Chain on the other hand noted that the Group’s “utmost concern is satisfying all customers, and that includes the areas of logistics and transport.”
With the creation of the Global Logistics Operations Center in Ireland, Endress+Hauser is bringing operative control of the logistics processes back into the company.
“With this step we want to improve transparency and customer satisfaction,” emphasizes Thorsten Wilkening.
Oliver Blum, on this part, expects the change to lead to faster innovation cycles. “By managing the global logistics network ourselves, we can be more agile and make more stringent decisions.
We can increase the service level and strengthen our focus on sustainability, for example by always using the most suitable carrier.”
The new center is located at the the Irish Sales Center which has been operational since 1979 and currently has a team of 30 employees who assist customers primarily in the life-sciences and food industries.
A Regional Support Center established at the same location in 2016 provides operative and business process support to a large number of sales centers.
The Human Resources Shared Services Center team joined the Ireland location in 2020, where it manages learning activities in the worldwide Endress+Hauser network.
Earlier Endress+Hauser opened a new sales office in the Egyptian capital city of Cairo in an effort to reinforce its presence in Egypt and better serve its customers.
As the second-largest economy in Africa, Egypt is considered an emerging market for Endress+Hauser and the company has committed to continue developing it in close cooperation with long-standing representative Anasia.
“With the opening of the office, Endress+Hauser is responding to its steady growth and putting itself in a position to further expand its local offering in engineering and services,” said Nikolaus Krüger, chief sales officer at the Endress+Hauser Group.
The new office will initially concentrate on oil & gas customers while other branches will continue to be managed by Anasia.
