The Fairtrade banana company earns a spot on The Globe and Mail’s prestigious ranking, reinforcing its commitment to ethical business practices.
CANADA – Equifruit, North America’s leader in Fairtrade-certified bananas, has been named one of Canada’s Top Growing Women-Led Companies by The Globe and Mail.
This recognition highlights the company’s continued expansion and dedication to ethical sourcing, fair pay, and gender equity.
“We’re honored to appear on this list alongside other women-led companies that are transforming the face of business here in Canada,” said Jennie Coleman, President and Co-owner of Equifruit.
“As a 100% Fairtrade banana company, we are 100% committed to one of Fairtrade’s key tenets, gender equity. We won’t stop fighting to end discrimination and elevate women, both in our banana supply chains and here at home in Canada.”
Equifruit has been a women-owned company from its inception. Under the leadership of Jennie Coleman and Kim Chackal, the company has reshaped the banana industry by promoting Fairtrade practices that ensure farmers receive a fair wage.
The company is a Certified Women-Owned Business through WEConnect International, a recognition that acknowledges its commitment to leadership and diversity.
It has also earned a place on The Globe and Mail’s Canada’s Top Growing Companies list for three consecutive years (2022, 2023, and 2024). The continued recognition reflects Equifruit’s steady growth and its role as an advocate for ethical trade in the fresh produce sector.
Equifruit’s presence at CPMA 2025
Equifruit will be showcasing its impact at the upcoming Canadian Produce Marketing Association (CPMA) Trade Show, taking place from April 8-10 at the Palais des Congrès de Montréal.
Attendees can visit Equifruit at booth #1923, where the team will emphasize the affordability of fair wages for farmers, costing consumers an average of only $5 more per year on their grocery bill.
“This year’s CPMA is extra special for us,” said Kim Chackal, VP of Marketing and Sales and Co-Owner of Equifruit. “Not only is it CPMA’s centennial and Equifruit’s 10th time exhibiting, but it’s taking place in our home city of Montreal. I won’t spoil the surprise, but let’s just say Equifruit’s new booth will be a guaranteed showstopper.”
The CPMA Trade Show is a key event for the fresh produce industry, bringing together suppliers, distributors, and retailers from around the world.
The 2025 edition will celebrate the association’s 100th anniversary, featuring educational sessions, networking opportunities, and product showcases.
With exhibitors from over 15 countries, the event serves as a platform for businesses to build connections and explore emerging opportunities in the produce sector.
Equifruit’s continued participation underscores its role as a leader in ethical sourcing and sustainable business practices.
