Eskort opens first Western Cape store in George

SOUTH AFRICA – Eskort, a South African brand known for its pork products, has expanded its footprint by opening its first shop in the Western Cape.

The store, located in the Eden Meander Lifestyle Centre in George, officially opened on November 21, marking the company’s 28th retail location across the country.

The new store is designed for meat enthusiasts, offering a broad selection of both fresh and processed pork products.

Customers can also enjoy freshly prepared meals, including pork-based options like burgers and eisbein, as well as salads.

A braai kiosk is set up at the front of the shop, serving grilled meats to customers.

Eskort’s product range caters to various budgets, from high-end to more affordable choices.

In addition to standard products, the store offers convenience items like frozen meals and platter packs, ideal for quick preparation in an air fryer.

Marcelle Pienaar, Eskort’s marketing director, highlighted that while pork ranks third in South Africa’s meat consumption, it remains an affordable option compared to other meats, such as mutton.

With rising living costs, Pienaar emphasized that pork offers good value for money, priced about a third less than mutton.

Food safety remains a priority for Eskort, which has maintained a strong track record for over 100 years.

The company sources its meat from two farms, both of which supply exclusively to Eskort and meet stringent health and hygiene standards.

In addition to the new store, Eskort has been making significant strides in its operations this year.

Earlier in 2024, the company expanded its Heidelberg production facility by 50%, increasing its capacity to meet the growing demand for pork products.

The extension, located in the small town of Heidelberg in Gauteng, covers 107,639 square feet and is expected to enhance the company’s production capabilities.

Eskort’s operations also include a factory in Estcourt, KwaZulu-Natal, where the company was first established in 1917.
