GERMANY – Ferrero, one of the world’s largest sweet-packaged food companies, is set to invest approximately €170 million (US$189 million) to modernise its production facility in Stadtallendorf, central Germany.

The facility, which has been operational since 1956, will undergo significant upgrades, including the construction of a new production hall, following approval from the Gießen Regional Council.

The investment is part of Ferrero’s ongoing efforts to enhance sustainability and efficiency at the facility.

The company, known for iconic brands like Ferrero Rocher and Nutella, stated that the focus of this expansion will be on “optimising sustainability in the operation of the entire plant.”

The new production hall will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology aimed at improving energy efficiency and meeting modern sustainability standards.

The expansion, originally scheduled for completion by 2025, will include the construction of additional warehouses dedicated to the production of ‘Mon Chéri’ pralines.

Ferrero emphasized that this project is crucial for securing the site’s future and maintaining jobs in the region.

The Gießen Regional Council’s decision to approve the construction followed an extensive review process, which considered various environmental factors.

The expansion is seen as a critical step in ensuring the long-term viability of the Stadtallendorf facility.

This investment follows Ferrero’s recent acquisitions, including the purchase of a snack-bar manufacturing facility in Faulbach, Bavaria, and the expansion of its Wells Enterprises production site in the United States, where the company increased its investment from US$250 million to US$425 million.

In FY 2023, Ferrero reported a 20.7 percent increase in turnover, reaching €17 billion (US$18.84B), driven by both organic growth and strategic acquisitions, including the purchase of Wells Enterprises.
