NIGERIA – Fire broke out on Friday at the condensed factory premises of FrieslandCampina WAMCO in Ogba Industrial Estate, Ikeja, Lagos State.

However, the fire was quickly contained by the rapid response of the Lagos State Fire Service with support from FrieslandCampina WAMCO safety team and other nearby corporate entities.

According to the company, there were no casualties as quick action was taken to evacuate employees from the premises and thus, no lives were lost.

The affected area was the conveyor section of the condensed milk factory, which is connected through a mass conveyor that was carrying empty cans to the filling room.

Corporate Affairs Director, Mrs. Ore Famurewa, said in a press briefing issued on Friday:

“The fire outbreak which occurred at around 1:10pm was contained by 1:55pm. The fire was caused by electrical malfunction in the conveyor section.

“We commend our employees for showing high commitment and safety leadership in organizing themselves during the fire.

In all this, FrieslandCampina WAMCO operations were not disrupted by the incident. As always, we ensure the safety and security of our employees as high priority.

“We appreciate the Lagos State Fire Service, FCWAMCO Safety Team, the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria fire team and nearby corporate organizations like Guinness Nigeria for their rapid response to curtail the fire outbreak.

We thank all our stakeholders for their show of concern,” Famurewa said.
