Flamingo Group strengthens sustainability efforts with Rosalind Kainyah’s appointment

KENYA – Flamingo Group International, a global company specializing in the wholesale of flowers and plants, as well as the processing and preserving of fruit and vegetables, has announced the appointment of Rosalind Kainyah MBE as its Non-Executive Director for Sustainability.

Kainyah, a sustainability expert with more than 30 years of experience, is set to play a key role in advancing the company’s environmental and social initiatives.

“Flamingo Group International is thrilled to welcome Rosalind Kainyah MBE as our new Non-Executive Director, Sustainability!” the company stated in a LinkedIn post.

“With over 30 years of experience and a passion for sustainability, Rosalind is the perfect addition to our team. We’re looking forward to collaborating with her to drive our sustainability agenda and become the world’s most resilient, best-value farm-direct grower with the lowest environmental footprint.”

Flamingo Group International has been actively working on several sustainability projects in Kenya. One of the major initiatives launched in 2024 is the Maji Safi Wetland Project, designed to clean farm water through a constructed wetland system.

This system utilizes Nile cabbage to filter out nutrients and impurities from wastewater, producing cleaner water suitable for consumption. Additionally, papyrus plants are cultivated and placed around the lake to curb soil erosion.

Another key project is the hydroponic water recycling system. This system recirculates and reuses water, leading to a significant reduction in overall consumption while lowering environmental impact.

The company has also implemented closed-loop irrigation systems and rainwater harvesting from its buildings and structures, furthering its commitment to water conservation.

Flamingo’s dedication extends beyond environmental conservation. The company has actively invested in worker welfare and community initiatives.

By prioritizing fair labor practices and ensuring that employees benefit from its sustainability efforts, the company aims to create a positive impact not only on the environment but also on the people who contribute to its success.

In addition, Flamingo Group International has maintained an active role in corporate social responsibility (CSR), focusing on recycling programs, water management, and broader environmental conservation efforts.

These projects reinforce the company’s strategy of maintaining sustainable operations while fostering positive community engagement.

With Kainyah’s appointment, Flamingo Group International is reinforcing its sustainability goals. Her expertise is expected to strengthen existing initiatives and guide the company toward further environmental and social advancements.

The company’s commitment to responsible farming and resource management remains central to its mission as it continues to expand its global operations while reducing its ecological footprint.
