Fonterra appoints Judith Swales as head of Global Consumer and Foodservice

NEW ZEALAND – The New Zealand dairy giant, Fonterra has appointed Judith Swales as the company Chief Operating Officer, Global Consumer and Foodservice effective immediately.

Judith Swales was appointed to the role in acting capacity earlier this year after the former COO, Lukas Paravicini announced his intentions to resign from the cooperative in November 2018.

Judith has worked in Fonterra since 2013 and is already a member of the executive team.

She has extensive leadership experience in consumer businesses and transformation, across multiple industries, including her previous roles as Managing Director of the Co-op’s Oceania business and Chief Operating Officer of Fonterra’s transformation and innovation function.

“Judith has been providing strong leadership into our Consumer and Foodservice business unit, and the momentum she has gathered deserves to be continued,” said the newly appointed Fonterra CEO Miles Hurrell.

“Judith’s strengths as a leader lie in her ability to quickly understand what needs to be done and her action-orientation – she’s very purposeful in the way she goes about things and I have every confidence in her delivering the kind of performance that people expect from us.

I’m very pleased to have Judith at the helm of our Global Consumer & Foodservice business.”

As COO she is responsible for driving efficiency across the Co-operative, bringing increased commercial focus to Fonterra’s research, development and technology, and taking a strategic view on developing game changing business models.

Prior to joining Fonterra, Judith was the Managing Director of Heinz Australia and CEO and Managing Director of Goodyear Dunlop, Australia and New Zealand.

She has also worked for several UK retailers which culminated in her move to Australia as the Managing Director of Angus and Robertson.

She has served as a Non-Executive Director on the DuluxGroup Board since April 2011 and has a degree in microbiology and virology.

Judith’s appointment comes after Miles Hurrell was confirmed the Chief Executive Officer of the company.
