USA – Boston-based Freight Farms, known for its hydroponic farming systems within shipping containers, has named Brad Griffith as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Griffith, a seasoned executive in sustainable agri-food systems, is set to steer Freight Farms toward expanded growth and reach. Alongside this new role, he joins the Board of Directors, bringing with him years of experience from top agricultural companies.
Griffith comes from a robust career in agriculture and life sciences, with notable positions at Compass Minerals, where he served as Chief Commercial Officer, and Monsanto Company, where he accumulated over 17 years of experience.
At Compass Minerals, Griffith led global operations in plant nutrition and salt, with oversight of commercial and manufacturing sectors, supply chain, and research and development.
Additionally, he brings a unique perspective as an Operating Partner with investment firms Ajax Strategies and Skyline Global Partners, and he continues to serve on the Board for Midwestern BioAg.
“Brad’s expertise aligns well with our mission to enhance food security and sustainability through Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA),” said Zach Morse, Freight Farms Board Director and Senior Analyst at Ospraie Ag Science.
“After years of pioneering new solutions, Freight Farms is now prepared to scale its impact on agronomic efficiency, and we’re excited for Brad to lead us through this new chapter.”
Griffith is enthusiastic about taking the helm, expressing his admiration for Freight Farms’ commitment to sustainable farming.
“Joining this talented team is incredibly exciting. Freight Farms has established itself as a leader in CEA farming, and we’ve seen the benefits this technology can bring to communities across the country and beyond,” said Griffith.
“I’m looking forward to working closely with our team and customers to ensure our systems can be accessible and practical for diverse markets, from local grocery stores to food deserts.”
Griffith’s vision includes an emphasis on strengthening customer relationships and simplifying business processes.
He noted that the company aims to make its hydroponic farms a familiar and dependable part of communities by offering fresh, nutritious produce year-round.
“We will be easy to do business with, solutions-oriented, and eager to form partnerships that foster growth on both sides,” he added.
Freight Farms: A leader in modular farming
Freight Farms is a Boston-based company that specializes in hydroponic farming systems built inside shipping containers.
They offer a complete vertical farming platform that allows for year-round production of hyper-local produce. Their systems are designed to be highly efficient, using less water and space compared to traditional farming methods.
Freight Farms also provides farm management and automation software called Farmhand, which helps farmers monitor and control their farms remotely. The company has installed over 600 farms worldwide, serving individuals, businesses, schools, and communities.
Outgoing CEO Rick Vanzura praised the company’s accomplishments under his leadership, highlighting its role in advancing modular farming technology and building a network of over 1,000 farmers worldwide.
“It’s been an incredible journey leading this dedicated team,” Vanzura reflected. “We’ve pushed boundaries in sustainable farming, and I’m grateful for the support of our global community that brings these innovations to life.”
Vanzura will remain an advisor to the Board to ensure a smooth transition, positioning Griffith to take the company forward seamlessly.
