Fresh Del Monte wins SEAL Business Sustainability Award

USA – Fresh Del Monte has won the SEAL Business Sustainability Award in the Environmental Initiative category, marking its fourth recognition in five years.

The SEAL (Sustainable, Environmental, Achievement, and Leadership) Awards highlight companies demonstrating strong environmental commitment through practical and measurable actions.

This year, Fresh Del Monte was honored for reaching its greenhouse gas reduction goals ahead of schedule. The company achieved a 27.5% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions seven years before its 2030 target.

“2025 represents our ninth-year SEAL Business Sustainability Award event. This year’s ESG award recipients follow a nine-year trendline of greater impact materiality and deeper granularity,” said Matt Harney, Chairperson and Founder of SEAL Awards.

“Across all industries and geographies, companies are going deep and granular — into materials, chemistry, processes, R&D, supply chains, and more — to generate sustainability improvements.”

Chiquita was also among this year’s SEAL Award winners, receiving the Sustainability Innovation Award for its disease-resistant banana prototype, Yelloway One.

This hybrid variety is the first of its kind to resist both Fusarium wilt (Tropical Race 4) and black leaf streak disease (Black Sigatoka), two major threats to banana production worldwide.

The development of Yelloway One represents a significant step toward improving banana crop resilience and reducing reliance on chemical treatments.

Experts believe the introduction of disease-resistant varieties could help maintain banana supply chains and protect farmers from economic losses linked to crop failures.

ICL, a global specialty minerals company, also secured a SEAL Award for its citrus preservation product, FruitMag. The company was recognized in the Sustainable Product category for its approach to reducing post-harvest fruit loss.

FruitMag is a mineral-based citrus treatment designed to extend shelf life without relying on chemical preservatives or fungicides. It works by strengthening the fruit’s natural structure, making it more resistant to spoilage.

Extensive testing conducted with the Volcani Institute confirmed the product significantly outperforms standard commercial treatments.

“We are proud and honored to receive the SEAL Sustainable Product Award for FruitMag,” said Yaniv Kabalek, President of ICL Industrial Products. “This recognition underscores ICL’s unwavering commitment to delivering healthier, more sustainable solutions across the food and farming sectors.”
