ICELAND – GeoSalmo, the Icelandic land-based salmon farming company, has announced the appointment of Håkon André Berg as its new executive chairman.

Berg, who previously led Salmon Evolution in Norway, has also taken a significant equity stake in GeoSalmo, marking a strong personal commitment to the company’s future.

Berg’s appointment brings a depth of industry knowledge to GeoSalmo, owing to his extensive experience in the seafood sector.

As CEO of Salmon Evolution, Berg played a crucial role in steering the company from its inception to its first successful harvest.

However, he chose to step down from his role in October 2022, when Trond Håkon Schaug-Pettersen took over the leadership of the company.

In addition to his work with Salmon Evolution, Berg has held several leadership positions, including his recent role as CEO of Skeie teknologi, a Norwegian investment firm.

His background also includes considerable experience in private equity and business development within the seafood industry.

GeoSalmo CEO Jens Þórðarson expressed confidence in Berg’s ability to contribute to the company’s growth, noting his successful track record in the land-based salmon farming industry.

Þórðarson highlighted Berg’s appointment as a pivotal moment for GeoSalmo as it moves forward with its plans to establish a large-scale facility near Þorlákshöfn.

The farm, designed to produce at least 33,000 tonnes of salmon annually, will utilize hybrid-flow through technology similar to that of Salmon Evolution.

GeoSalmo has already secured key resources, including land and energy, essential for the construction of its site.

The company aims to become a leading player in Iceland’s land-based salmon farming sector, with a focus on sustainability and positive environmental impact.
