GHANA – Ghana’s district of Tain is the latest beneficiary of the 1 District- 1 Factory programme after the government laid the foundation for the construction of a new cashew nut processing factory in the District.
The One-District -One Factory is president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo flagship programme aimed at achieving inclusive industrialization through the establishment of at least 1 factory in each of Ghana’s district.
The government hopes that through the initiative, Ghana’s economy would be uplifted and more jobs would be created for the country’s unemployed youth.
Addressing a congregation of chiefs and people at Nsawkaw, the Member of Parliament for the constituency Mr. Gabriel Osei said the government is working towards fulfilling its promises.
He said the construction of a cashew processing factory for the district is a right call as it would stimulate large scale farming of cashew nut in the area.
With the new factory, Mr. Gabriel Osei noted that farmers would be empowered to produce more and would be poised to received greater income from their produce.
The MP expressed optimism that the factory will meet the expectations of the needs of the people and assured the contractor his full support to help seeing the project completed as scheduled.
Mr. Evans Asigri a consultant for the project from Ghana’s Rural Enterprise Programme, assured the people that his outfit would make sure the contractor carryout his work in accordance to the plan documents and complete as scheduled.
The project awarded to Thedal Real Properties is expected to be completed and hand over to the people in 6months.
Last month, government officials led by Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Keta, Mr Godwin Edudzi Yao Effah visited the Keta Cassava Processing Factory to inspect progress of work.
The Keta Cassava Processing factory was being renovated under the 1 District 1 Factory initiative and construction work is expected to be completed in September to allow for commissioning and commencement of operations.
The Keta Factory according to the region’s Municipal Chief Executive is expected to improve the livelihoods of the locals through creation of 150 direct jobs and an additional 1500 indirect jobs.
