GHANA- Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has launched the Ghana-Nebraska Agribusiness Growth and Trade Relations Chamber (GNEBCham) to enhance trade ties between Ghana and the US.

GNEBCham is a non-profit organization as a joint venture between private and public stakeholders in the US State of Nebraska and Ghana.

The Chamber was conceptualized in 2023 after a visit by a delegation from the government and members of the agribusiness community to Nebraska inspired by increased trade interest between the two countries.

Its objective is to strengthen and facilitate agribusiness trade between Nebraska and Ghana by exchanging goods and services and supporting members in forming strategic alliances and cooperation.

The Deputy Minister also revealed that the ministry will work with the Chamber through the Economic Trade and Investment Bureau to pursue the Chamber’s objectives and give Ghana a competitive advantage.

Ampratwum-Sarpong said, “The Ministry has become a collaborative partner of your chamber and will work closely with you to ensure that our diplomatic efforts and resources align with the Chamber’s mission.”

Yaw Frimpong-Addo, Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, welcomed GNEBCham’s launch, reiterating the opportunities that come with such collaborations in linking agriculture and technology.

FrimpongAddo said, “We are trying to promote a lot more of such collaboration in terms of technology transfer because everything under agriculture now has become merchandised and technological.”

During GNEBCham’s launch on July 17, the Africa Development Bank (ADB) also announced a strategic partnership with the Chamber. ADB praised the Chamber’s launch, reiterating the importance of such initiatives and collaborations in enhancing the agribusiness sector.

The bank committed to providing funding for the Chamber to link players in both Ghana and Nebraska to enable them exchange ideas, knowledge and technical skills that would enhance the agriculture sector.

Alhaji Alhassan Yakubu-Tali, ADB’s Managing Director, said, “By combining our financial expertise with the Chamber’s international network and knowledge, we are poised to drive significant growth and wealth creation through agriculture.”

Yakubu-Tali acknowledged Nebraska’s advanced agriculture technology capabilities, which, if leveraged through ADB’s funding, will help significantly improve Ghana’s agriculture sector and output.
