GLOBAL – An increasing consumer preference for natural and healthy food products is driving demand for fruit puree, according to a recent Allied Market Research report.
The market, valued at around US$4.8 billion in 2023, is expected to more than double, reaching approximately US$10.1 billion by 2035. This growth would represent a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.5%.
Fruit puree is widely used in dairy, bakery, infant food, and beverage products. The growing interest in plant-based diets has also contributed to its popularity.
“Consumers are increasingly looking for natural ingredients that offer both nutrition and taste, which has significantly boosted the appeal of fruit puree,” the report states.
Developments in processing technology have improved the quality and shelf life of fruit puree, allowing manufacturers to meet growing consumer demand.
However, challenges such as high production costs and seasonal availability continue to impact the industry. At the same time, there are opportunities tied to the rising demand for organic products and the expansion of eCommerce in developing regions.
Market trends and growth segments
In 2023, tropical and exotic fruits held the largest market share, accounting for nearly one-third of total sales. This category includes mango, passion fruit, guava, and dragon fruit, which are commonly used in beverages, desserts, and baby food. Consumer preference for these flavors is expected to keep this segment in the lead.
Citrus fruits are projected to grow at the fastest rate, with an expected CAGR of 7.1% during the forecast period. The popularity of natural ingredients in food and beverages is driving demand for orange, lemon, and lime purees.
On the production side, conventional fruit puree accounted for over half of the market revenue in 2023. This segment’s growth is linked to its affordability and widespread availability, making it a key ingredient in beverages and baked goods.
Meanwhile, organic fruit puree is expected to expand at a faster rate of 7.3%, driven by the increasing preference for chemical-free options. Health-conscious consumers and manufacturers focused on baby food and clean-label beverages are contributing to this trend.
Strong regional growth in Asia-Pacific
The food and beverage sector remains the largest user of fruit puree, making up about 40% of total revenue in 2023. The product enhances flavor, texture, and nutritional value in items such as smoothies, juices, and bakery goods.
Beyond food, the cosmetics and personal care industry is adopting fruit puree for skincare products, with a projected growth rate of 7.3%.
“The natural properties of fruit purees make them a desirable addition to skincare formulations, contributing to the segment’s expansion,” the report highlights.
Asia-Pacific led the market in 2023 and is expected to maintain its position in the coming years, with a growth rate of 7.3% from 2024 to 2035.
The region’s increasing demand for health-focused beverages, a strong food processing industry, and a preference for preservative-free products are key factors supporting this expansion.
