Global Seafood Alliance launches Prism platform for traceability, assurance

WORLD – The Global Seafood Alliance (GSA) has introduced Prism, a digital platform created in collaboration with Wholechain, aimed at integrating assurance and traceability solutions within the seafood supply chain.

Prism consolidates data from audits and traceability systems into a single platform, allowing users to access and manage information generated through Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability (GDST) and GS1-Electronic Product Code Information Services (EPCIS)-compliant systems.

The GSA explained that the platform’s goal is to streamline data use for improved supply chain monitoring, operational processes, and stakeholder accountability.

Tim Grotheer, the Director of IT at GSA, described Prism as a step toward enhancing the transparency and reliability of supply chains in a press release.

“This platform combines advanced data management systems with a user-friendly interface to improve tracking capabilities and provide comprehensive insights for decision-makers,” he stated.

To encourage industry uptake, GSA and Wholechain are launching a webinar series starting December 17.

The series will continue through 2025, focusing on topics such as seafood traceability and certification.

The first session, titled “Building Trust in Seafood Through Traceability and Certification,” will introduce the platform and its functions.

Future webinars will address regulations, including the U.S. Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), and methods for enhancing traceability in seafood supply chains.

Additionally, GSA has announced a promotional offer for its corporate members.

Companies that sign up with Wholechain in the first year will receive a 25% discount, which the organization hopes will incentivize early adoption of Prism.

Established in 1997 and headquartered in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the Global Seafood Alliance is a nonprofit group that advocates for responsible practices in the seafood industry.

Through certification programs, educational initiatives, and policy advocacy, the organization aims to address critical challenges related to environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and food safety.

GSA’s certification standards cover both wild-caught and farmed seafood and are widely recognized globally.
