SOUTH AFRICA – South African fast-food franchising company Gold Brands is bringing the UK casual-dining brand Café Rouge to South Africa.

“Café Rouge has been going strong for over 25 years and, with 95 outlets across the UK, has become a household name there,” says Stelio Nathanael, chief operating officer of Gold Brands, explaining the rationale behind the decision to bring the hugely popular brand to South Africa.

“South Africans are always hungry for new, exciting dining experiences, and Café Rouge will definitely fill this gap.”

Starting with just one fast-food outlet in 2012, Gold Brands has built up an portfolio of casual-dining outlets, catering to a wide array of tastes and budgets, across the country.

The roll-out of 10 Café Rouge outlets is part of their plan for the next five years.

Café Rouge offers authentic French food in a Parisienne-style setting.

Tapping into a trend for all day dining, the menu features eggs benedict, fresh patisseries and baguettes; alongside a core selection of French classics such as Poulet Breton; Steak Frites; Moules; and Confit de Carnard.

In addition, a specials board will be updated daily and ongoing menu innovations will draw inspiration from its French heritage. To accompany the food, expert sommeliers have selected a range of wine to accompany each dish.

South African architects Pattichides and Partners will create the French-bistro-style look, complete with iconic French artwork.

The first South African Café Rouge will open its doors in Johannesburg in July.

Earlier this year Gold Brands announced that it is bringing Las Iguanas to South Africa.

It is a UK mid-market restaurant brand that specialises in authentic Mexican, Brazilian and South American food and cocktails. The first outlet will open in Johannesburg in June.
