Key Issues

Vibrant Local & Inclusive Economy

Covid-19 pandemic has shown that global supply chains are not as effective as previously thought. The need to develop local agricultural production that can strengthen local sourcing of raw materials and manufacturing in Africa has become a major priority.

The Summit will highlight examples of how the food and agriculture sector players can improve local sourcing initiatives, build local stakeholder engagement, plus showcase ways to create opportunities for women and youth in the food value chain in Africa.

Leadership, Strategy, Policy & Governance

The World is literally on fire! Flooding and extreme weather phenomena are becoming normal – with devastating consequences! However, Africa is ill prepared to meet these rising challenges. Strong leadership, clear and concise policies, strategies and governance structures are in dire need.

At the Summit you will learn some of the most critical leadership, strategy and governance concepts; and policies and strategies that Governments and private sector actors can adopt to embed sustainable business practices in their operations and communities.

Renewable Energy Transition

The opportunity to drive sustainability in the food and agriculture sector in Africa through the adoption of renewable energy such as solar and other technologies is huge.

The Summit will enable investors and managers in Africa’s agriculture, food processing, retail and HORECA industry to discover new ways to transition their facilities and plants to renewable energy sources that boost their environmental impact and reduce costs of business operations.

Cleaner, Circular Economy

The food and agriculture sectors impact the future of Africa and the World through their contribution to the depletion of scarce resources such as water. They also contribute to the proliferation of waste in the food value chain.

The Summit will highlight ways to build incorporate new packaging technologies, build a cleaner and circular economy in the Continent; showcase initiatives and technologies that improve water & waste utilisation; and give examples of ways to boost ecological balance and create cleaner environments, facilities, plants and communities

New Food Technologies & Digitalisation

The development new food products and concepts and adoption of new technologies and digital tools to improve uptake of sustainability concepts and track performance of goals and strategies are at the very core of the sustainability agenda in Africa.

At the Summit, look forward to discover the future of food innovation and how new technologies and digital tools can be used to mainstream sustainability in Africa’s food and agriculture value chain – from farm to fork.

Sustainability a Key Issue in Africa

The impact of climate change is projected to have devastating effects on Africa’s agriculture sector, driving down crop yields by as much as 25% according to the World Bank. Already the World’s poorest continent, the reduction in crop yields will have a direct reduction in food and nutrition security in the Continent, and at the same time, impacting the food processing and retail sector.

The food and agriculture sector in Africa has an important role to play to combat the deleterious effects of climate change by adopting the right technologies and practices that can bolster local production of key agricultural inputs and adding more value within the Continent.

Further, by creating opportunities for local sourcing of key materials that empower local communities, women and youth; adopting new renewable energy, water and waste management technologies; taking the lead in pushing for the sustainability agenda and seeking new technologies that shall lead to more inclusive and vibrant local economies in Africa, the food and agriculture sector can contribute to a better future for all.
