Heineken Ethiopia bags coveted Ethiopian Quality Award 

ETHIOPIA – Heineken’s Kilinto Brewery in Ethiopia, a part of Dutch multinational brewing company, Heineken N.V., has been awarded the prestigious 10th Round Ethiopian Quality Award by the Ethiopian Quality Award Organization. 

The brewery achieved the highest rank in the evaluation criteria against 38 food and beverage manufacturing plants in the country during the ceremony held at Grand Palace presided by H.E Sahle-Work Zewde, President of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia. 

The award seeks to recognize organizations for their achievement in quality and performance, raise awareness about the concept of quality and excellence. 

While celebrating the achievement, the company wrote on their LinkedIn; A good quality product is fundamental to meeting our consumers’ and customer’s expectations. Quality is the moment of truth when our consumers taste our products and feel our passion and dedication in everything we do. 

This accomplishment is a result of our strong internal quality systems, compliance, TPM excellence, and continual improvement activities in the Brewery and beyond.” 

Kilinto Brewery was officially inaugurated in January 2015, as part of Heineken’s US$334M investment in Ethiopia.  

The brewery has a total production capacity of 1.5M hectolitres and employs over 280 people drawn from the local workforce. 

Heineken’s key brands in Ethiopia are Bedele Special, Bedele Regular, Harar, Hakim Stout, Sofi, and Heineken beer. 

The news comes after the brewery previously bagged the award for Environmental top performer earlier this year.  

The award was given by the Addis Ababa Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) for being the top company against the shortlisted 100 industries in Addis Ababa from a staggering 7,164 industries and service providers. 

The company stated. “This recognition is attributed to our strong Environmental Roadmap and Implementation, effective waste management practices, and our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. “ 

Earlier this month, Heineken Ethiopia joined its subsidiary, Bedele Brewery during its 30th anniversary celebrations. The brewery, established 30 years ago was acquired by Heineken Ethiopia in 2011. 

“Since its acquisition, the brewery has undergone significant improvements and renovations and together with its devoted team of over 140 employees, it stands as a sustainable brewery in the market with TPM Iron Certification Award,” read the company’s LinkedIn post. 

The brewery proudly serves as the birthplace of the renowned Bedele Regular brand, which began as a regional name but has now gained popularity throughout Ethiopia.
