IFF invests US$70M in its Cedar Rapids plant to expand production capacity

USA – International Flavors & Fragrances, Inc., (IFF) has invested US$70 million to expand its Cedar Rapids, Iowa facility to capture a larger share of the booming healthy snacks market in USA and globally.

When fully operational in the latter half of 2026, the 47,000-square-foot expansion is projected to create up to 40 new jobs, says the company.

Andy Muller, president of Food Ingredients, said, “Our Cedar Rapids plant will be equipped with cutting-edge technologies, allowing us to provide U.S.-made TAURA by IFF fruit ingredients that can be easily integrated into food manufacturing processes.

“Additionally, sustainability is at the forefront of this project, aligning with our commitment to Do More Good.”

Building on over thirty years of proprietary technology, this expansion will provide IFF with a competitive advantage in the healthy snacks market. The facility will be highly automated, with advanced packaging solutions and ergonomic designs.

Its proximity to U.S. customers will improve supply chain efficiency. The new facility will also emphasize sustainability by integrating efficient heat recovery systems, reducing energy and water consumption, and employing reusable methods for raw material handling.

“The expansion project at Cedar Rapids represents the first US IFF facility to focus on TAURA by IFF ingredients,” said Muller. “TAURA’s clean-label fruit and vegetable pieces and pastes provide manufacturers with versatile formats for creating differentiated products with natural appeal.”

Leticia Gonçalves, former ADM President of Precision Fermentation and ADM Ventures, joined IFF as President of Health and Biosciences, replacing Simon Herriott, who served in the company for 21 years.

Erik Fyrwald, IFF CEO, commented, “Since 2019, Simon has driven growth and operational effectiveness through innovation, customer intimacy and supply chain development as president of our Health and Biosciences business unit.

“We’re grateful for Simon’s tremendous contributions to IFF and wish him well for the future. His dedication and leadership will leave a lasting impact on our organization.”

Indicated by IFF, Gonçalves brings extensive experience in innovation-based companies, having served in various senior global and regional P&L leadership roles at ADM, Bayer and Monsanto in Brazil, Europe and the United States.

“We’re excited to welcome Leticia to IFF,” said Fyrwald. “Her extensive experience driving P&L growth in innovation-led businesses and accelerating high-performing teams—coupled with her knowledge of our end markets—will be a great addition to our leadership team.
