New capsule system features sustainable design, innovative brewing technology, and supports illycaffè’s ongoing international expansion and revenue growth.
ITALY – Italian coffee brand illycaffè has introduced its new illy X-CAPS capsule coffee system, marking a significant step in its mission to combine high-quality coffee with sustainable innovation.
The launch aligns with the company’s ongoing growth strategy and commitment to delivering premium experiences for consumers at home.
The illy X-CAPS system features Hyperinfusion technology, a proprietary innovation designed to ensure optimal coffee extraction. This technology regulates water pressure to enhance aroma and deliver a full-bodied espresso with a rich, long-lasting crema.
The new system is also engineered to preserve freshness and aroma, setting a new benchmark in the single-serve coffee segment.
The X-CAPS capsules are made from 85% recycled aluminium and feature a symmetrical design that enables bidirectional use. This approach not only supports sustainability but also offers a more intuitive and user-friendly experience for consumers.
Cristina Scocchia, CEO of illycaffè, emphasized the company’s drive to merge tradition with technological advancement. “With the launch of X-CAPS, we are proud to combine over 90 years of experience in high-quality coffee with a concrete commitment to innovation,” she said.
“X-CAPS represents excellence in taste, thanks to our new Hyperinfusion technology, and marks an important evolution in the way we aim to offer consumers a unique and sustainable coffee experience—even at home.”
The new capsule machines were designed by renowned architect and designer Luca Trazzi. The X1 machine features a sleek steel body, instant heating, and an energy-saving mode.
Meanwhile, the X3 model is built with 50% recycled or renewable plastic and comes in black or white with satin or glossy finishes, offering a minimalist and functional option for eco-conscious consumers.
Financial Results
The product launch comes on the back of strong financial performance by the Italian coffee giant. For the year ending December 31, 2024, illycaffè reported a 6% year-on-year revenue increase, reaching €630 million (US$681.6 million).
Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) grew by 19% to €110 million (US$119 million), recording the third consecutive year of double-digit growth.
Net profit surged by 42% to €33 million (US$35.7 million), attributed to strategic international expansion.
The company reported notable gains in its home market of Italy, which contributes around one-third of its total sales, as well as an 11% revenue increase in the US market.
