MOROCCO – Imperium Holding, a luxury tea and infusion packaging company, has received a joint €25 million 9 US$26.4M) investment from Proparco, the Danish Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU), and Si Advisers LLP.
The funding aims to support the company’s expansion plans while promoting social and environmental sustainability.
Since its founding in 1979, Imperium Holding has been a pioneer in premium tea production and packaging, serving luxury tea brands across five continents.
This investment will reinforce its leadership in eco-friendly and innovative packaging solutions, particularly through its subsidiary SITI, which specializes in sustainable stitched tea bag production.
By combining manual and automated production methods, SITI offers a fully integrated and scalable solution.
Imperium Holding expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, “This investment will allow us to expand our production capabilities and further our integration strategy, enabling us to continue offering our clients the most flexible, distinctive, and sustainable tea packing solutions.
“It strengthens our position as a reliable and innovative partner for premium tea brands, providing them with a unique competitive advantage in an increasingly dynamic market.”
The investment aligns with Proparco’s 2023-2027 strategy, directly answering to targets 1 and 3: invest in a sustainable and resilient economy and contribute to the reduction of social inequality.
The operation is projected to create an additional 933 jobs, contributing significantly to local economic development. Imperium Holding already employs over 1,200 people and is committed to enhancing governance standards, including promoting gender diversity in leadership.
IFU investment manager Youssef Shelbaya highlighted the synergy between commercial returns and developmental impact, emphasizing the company’s strong market position within the niche tea sector.
He noted that the funding would support Imperium’s expansion strategy, aiming to double its production capacity while achieving key environmental and social goals.
Proparco’s North Africa regional director, Frédérique Masi, praised Imperium’s established leadership and substantial regional and international impact, stating, “Collaborating with Imperium Holding enables us to foster greater opportunities for communities and contribute to lasting, positive change across the region.”
