INDIA – Indri Single Malt Whisky, crafted by Piccadily Distilleries, has marked a crucial achievement, solidifying its position as the “fastest growing single malt whisky in the world ever,” as per the company statement.

This milestone underscores India’s burgeoning growth story in the spirits industry, challenging the dominance of imported labels and elevating Indian excellence on the global stage.

Praveen Malviya, CEO of Piccadily Distilleries, expressed pride in Indri’s remarkable success, stating, “It’s not just a brand; it’s a symbol of national pride, elevating the status of Indian spirits to unparalleled heights.”

Indri’s phenomenal growth, boasting a 599 percent surge compared to the previous year, has propelled it to capture an impressive 30 percent market share in India. With ambitious expansion plans, Piccadily Distilleries aims to position Indri among the top 5 selling single malt whiskies globally.

Since its debut in November 2021, Indri has garnered over 25 prestigious accolades, including the coveted title of ‘Best Indian Single Malt’ at renowned competitions like the World Whisky Awards and the International Whisky Competition.

Notable achievements such as ‘Asian Whisky of the Year’ and a ‘Gold Medal’ at the New York World Wine & Spirits Competition have further solidified its reputation on the international stage.

The crowning moment for Indri came with its Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition being hailed as the ‘Best Whisky in the World’ at the Whiskies of the World Awards, surpassing esteemed Scotch and American rivals.

This accolade not only elevated the brand’s status but also bolstered the global recognition of Indian whiskies, sparking a surge in demand for premium Indian single malts.

IWSR Drinks Market Analysis reveals that Indian single malt whiskies have experienced a remarkable 144 percent surge in consumption, outpacing Scotch counterparts in 2021-22.

IWSR projects continued growth, with Indian malt consumption forecasted to increase by 13 percent annually until 2027, compared to Scotch malts at 8 percent.

Early estimates by the Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC) indicate that Indian single malts commanded a significant 53 percent of total sales in 2023, surpassing imported brands.

Piccadily Distilleries plans to bolster its capacity by 66 percent to 20,000 liters per day by 2025, expanding beyond its current presence in 18 foreign markets.

Additionally, the distillery intends to double the number of casks to 100,000, further enhancing its production capabilities and meeting the growing demand for Indri Single Malt Whisky.
