MALAYSIA – Leading global provider of specialty ingredients to the food and beverage industry, Ingredion Incorporated, has announced the expansion of PureCircle by Ingredion’s stevia production facility in Malaysia.

Ingredion says that the latest expansion quadriples its PureCircle’s bioconversion technology capacity, further extending its position as the largest scale operator for stevia ingredients from bioconversion.

Consequently, the company will now have greater capacity to supply the superior tasting stevia leaf ingredients which are commonly used to replace sugar and artificial sweeteners across food and beverage categories.

“Historically, brands have had limited access to the best-tasting stevia leaf solutions at scale,” said Nate Yates, global platform lead for sugar reduction at Ingredion.

“This significant investment in the production capacity to produce stevia ingredients, like Reb M and other better-tasting steviol glycosides, unlocks deeper sugar reduction possibilities and optimized taste performance for companies of all sizes.”

Earlier this year, Ingredion announced the launch of its PureCircle™ Clean Taste Solutions which provide clean-tasting sweetness across several categories including beverages, dairy, tea, coffee, sports nutrition, bakery, confectionery, savory, sauces and dressings.

The expansion of the PureCircle Malaysia facility will further accelerate brands’ formulation efforts, by increasing the amount of finished stevia ingredients which make Clean Taste Solutions possible.

Clean label gelling starch for use in dairy and savory applications

More recently, The company launched Novation Indulge 2940, a minimally processed, label-friendly ingredient that meets the demands of health-conscious consumers of dairy and alternative dairy products.

According to Ingredion, Novation Indulge 2940 is the first non-GMO functional native corn starch and clean label ingredient that provides a unique gelled texture for popular dairy and alternative dairy products.

One of the products unique selling point is on the labelling as it allows manufacturers to use the “corn starch” label, which is highly recognized and more accepted by consumers globally than gelatin, carrageenan and other common texturants.

“With Novation Indulge 2940, food brands can formulate popular products – such as yogurts, puddings, processed cheese and vegan cheese – that satisfy both the increasing demand for clean labels and the growing dietary requirements of consumers, and all with an ideal texture,” said Nick Ferraro, Global Senior Strategic Marketing Manager, Clean & Simple Ingredients, Ingredion Incorporated.

Other benefits of Novation Indulge 2940 include cost stabilization and improved cost-in-use thanks to the ingredient’s reliable supply.

Applications work conducted by Ingredion’s Global Application team demonstrated a 2.6% reduction in yogurt formulation cost and an additional $6.1M in projected revenue per 100,000 metric tons of finished product, according to Ingredion’s ATLAS proprietary product simulator.
