Ingredion launches advanced stevia-based sweetening solution to provide clean-tasting sweetness

USA – Ingredion, a leading global provider of ingredient solutions, has tailored a new advanced stevia-based sweetening solution in the food and beverage space called PureCircle Clean Taste Solutions with the aim of streamlining product formulation and delivering unique sweetness profiles.

PureCircle Clean Taste Solutions is a zero-calorie sweetening solution and may provide clean-tasting sweetness for several applications, including beverages, dairy, tea, coffee, sports nutrition, bakery, confectionery, savory, sauces, and dressings, according to the company.

“Removing sugar and artificial sweeteners in product formulation is not one-size-fits-all,” said Nate Yates, global platform lead for sugar reduction at Ingredion.

“PureCircle Clean Taste Solutions are designed to streamline product formulation by delivering unique sweetness profiles required by food and beverage brands. Our team of experts helps our customers to develop the best sweetening experience and quickly bring them to market.”

Stevia is a natural sweetener derived from the leaves of the Stevia rebaudiana plant. It is known for its intense sweetness without the added calories of sugar.

However, some individuals may perceive a distinct aftertaste when consuming stevia. The aftertaste can vary from person to person, but it is generally described as bitter, metallic, or licorice-like.

The main highlight of PureCircle Clean Taste Solutions is its ability to address the lingering aftertaste often associated with stevia-based sweeteners.

The company said PureCircle by Ingredion is the only stevia producer to offer stevia sweeteners like Reb M from stevia leaf extract, bioconversion, and fermentation technologies.

Ingredion added that the innovations help drive cost-efficiency and sustainability, and create a path for reducing sugar with quality, health-conscious ingredients.

With a growing demand for healthier and more sustainable alternatives to traditional sugars and artificial sweeteners, Ingredion’s PureCircle Clean Taste Solutions comes as a timely and game-changing entry into the market.

The stevia market has experienced significant growth in recent years and continued demand is expected in the years ahead.

According to Research and Markets, the stevia market valued at US$ 539.68 million in 2021, is projected to reach US$ 965.82 million by 2028, exhibiting a CAGR of 8.7% from 2021 to 2028. During the forecast period, Asia Pacific is expected to account for the largest share of the global stevia market.

The increase in the diet trend of no added sugars and low carbohydrates among consumers during and post-COVID-19 has led to an increase in demand for stevia.

The sugar alternative solutions have in recent years been at the center of controversies. In a highly anticipated ruling, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared aspartame, the popular artificial sweetener, to be a “possible carcinogen” but it remains safe to consume in moderation, only at already agreed levels.
