ANGOLA – Dagan Agricultural Automation is expected to spearhead plans to install an agro-industrial complex dedicated to fish farming in Angola.
The complex will be constructed on a total of 25 hectares, 20 of which will be used for the installation of 14 greenhouse tanks, taking up 10 thousand square meters, for fish farming along the sea and river coast.
Another 4 hectares of the land allocated for the project will be utilized for the cultivation of cereals intended for food consumption and the production of protein or fish feed.
The remaining one hectare will be used for the captive breeding of a variety of fish species on the high seas.
The investment is by a group of investors who were part of a North American business delegation that sought an audience with the Secretary of State for Agriculture and Livestock, João Cunha, for the presentation of the project.
According to the group’s president, Sharon Amar, the project is expected to be operational by 2024 with an estimated annual production of 20,000 metric tonnes of fish.
He further revealed that the project will constitute agricultural production of fish and biosalt, agro-food training and research centres and the tourism component of recreational fishing.
Sharon Amar also informed that the project will be located in the province of Luanda or Benguela saying that studies are already being developed to define the location.
Amar affirmed the total financial availability of the project and further informed that the bureaucratic aspects, transfer and legalization of land for the subsequent transport of equipment will be triggered during the current year.
The Secretary of State guaranteed that the Angolan government will provide all the necessary support for the implementation of the project, as part of a strategy to ensure sustainable fishing in the country.
The North American business delegation intends to soon travel to Benguela province for a prospecting visit to decide whether the project will be implemented there or in Luanda.
