JBS expands support for small producers

JBS’s Green Offices program provides free consulting for environmental regularization. More than 6,000 hectares have been designated for forest recovery in four years.

BRAZIL – JBS has extended its services to small-scale farmers, helping to regularize over 15,000 rural properties through its Green Offices program.

The initiative offers free technical and environmental consulting to producers seeking compliance support.

As of 2024, the program has led to 199 environmental regularization projects, restoring 4,153.5 hectares of native vegetation.

JBS has also expanded its outreach by launching the Virtual Green Office, which provides remote assistance via email, phone, and WhatsApp.

Since its introduction in October 2024, the virtual service has handled approximately 1,220 interactions.

The program operates through 20 physical units across Brazil, mainly within Friboi facilities. These locations are staffed by analysts who assess producers’ properties and offer tailored solutions.

In addition, Green Offices 2.0 was launched to provide specialized socio-environmental services.

Three Key Areas of Assistance

Under the expanded program, producers receive support in three areas:

  • Green Environmental Office: Helps farmers comply with environmental regulations and reintegrate their farms into the production chain.
  • Green Technical Assistance Office: Focuses on soil productivity, pasture recovery, water quality improvement, and sustainable farming practices to enhance profitability and farmers’ well-being.
  • Green Office Management Assistance: Provides training and management tools to help farmers improve property administration.

In 2023 alone, 6,887 properties achieved compliance, while 1,311 farms received either technical (852) or managerial (459) assistance.

The rural extension team made over 4,700 visits to family farms, collecting and analyzing more than 600 soil samples.

Technology and Supply Chain Transparency

JBS has also integrated digital tools to support livestock farmers.

The Cowbot tool, introduced in 2024, conducted 17,377 analyses in just six months, allowing producers to verify supply chain traceability before transactions.

Farmers can use a chatbot to access monitoring data by sharing geolocation details or their CAR registration number.

Additionally, JBS leveraged its Transparent Livestock Platform (PPT) to track supply chain processing.

The company surpassed its 2023 goal of processing 78% of livestock in Friboi units, reaching 80.72% by the end of the year.

“Producers need to be at the center of discussions on best farming practices,” said Liège Correia, Sustainability Director at JBS Brazil.

“Prioritizing initiatives that help them in their daily work is essential for the entire supply chain, and we are pleased to see more livestock farmers adopting Green Offices.”
