BRAZIL – Brazillian meat giant, JBS has reopened its Juara beef processing plant in the state of Mato Grosso increasing more beef capacity.
According to JBS, the plant has a processing capacity of 700 heads and has logistical positioning that guarantees access to important producing regions.
“Production at Juara will be rolled out in stages, starting with the processing of 300 head of cattle; the plant is well located to supply domestic demand and has the skills to serve important markets abroad,” JBS said.
The factory will also absorb demand from another facility in Mato Grosso, based in the municipality of Diamantino.
Both the Juara and Diamantino sites are operated by JBS’ Friboi business unit, which produces beef products under the same brand name.
In addition, Friboi president Renato Costa said that the reopening of the plant in Juara is further proof of Friboi’s commitment to the suppliers in the region and to the state of Mato Grosso.
“With this move, we will ensure adequate productive capacity locally, in addition to reinforcing our condition of relevance for the generation of employment and income in the state,” he added.
JBS’ subsidiary reinvests over US$20M to strengthen operation
Meanwhile, the meat giant’s subsidiary in Australia, Rivalea, has invested over US$13.7 million in its Corowa facility, as it aims to improve and strengthen its operations.
According to the company, the funds will be used to upgrade the company’s Corowa pork processing site and processing facilities, as well as support Rivalea’s growth across fresh and value-added pork products that are supplied to Australian consumers and key export partners.
In addition, Edison Alvares, COO of JBS Australia’s pork division, noted that through the US$20 million investment programme, the company will seek to improve the productivity of its operations which will enhance job security for people in the Corowa community.
“Rivalea is a leader in the Australian pork sector with a strong team and track record of sustainable pork production. We are committed to building on these foundations and creating new opportunities for Australian-grown pork, both here and overseas,” Edison said.
JBS acquired Rivalea, an Australian pork producer earlier last year with a complete transaction of an unrevealed amount.
“With this acquisition JBS strengthens its position in Australia, becoming the leader in pork processing in the country, adding important brands to the portfolio, in addition to strengthening the company’s export platform,” JBS said in a notice.
JBS in June 2021 announced its intent to acquire Rivalea Holdings, a market leader in hog breeding and processing in Australia, accounting for about 26% of the hogs processed in Australia.
