JBS’s Seara achieves milestone in sustainability adoption on Brazilian farms

BRAZIL – JBS’s subsidiary, Seara, has reached a key achievement in 2024, with 70% of its integrated producers in Brazil now utilizing solar power on their farms.

The company has reported a staggering 1,149% increase in solar energy adoption over the past five years.

In the past year alone, solar energy generated by Seara’s farms amounted to 205,182,885.60 kWh, a quantity sufficient to power a city of 90,000 people for an entire year.

This initiative spans eight Brazilian states, with São Paulo and Santa Catarina leading the way, as 77% and 73% of farms in those regions have installed solar panels.

Seara plans to continue expanding its efforts to promote sustainable technologies and support producers in applying best practices in farming.

JBS has also committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions, with US$150 million invested in various projects at its facilities aimed at lowering Scope 1 and 2 emissions.

The company has earmarked over US$5 million for projects intended to reduce Scope 3 emissions across its entire value chain.

In addition to sustainability efforts, JBS is funding research into animal welfare, nutrition, and farm management, with the aim of further reducing emissions through operational improvements.

By 2040, JBS plans to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.

The company’s commitment to workforce development includes more than 5.8 million hours of training aimed at enhancing employees’ professional skills and career growth within the company.

Additionally, JBS has enrolled over 1,400 employees or their family members in tuition-free higher education through its Better Futures program.

The company’s initiatives reflect a broad commitment to environmental responsibility and workforce development as part of its long-term goals.
