JBT, Marel merge to form JBT Marel Corporation

ICELAND – The Icelandic meat and food processing equipment manufacturer Marel has been acquired by the American company John Bean Technologies Corporation (JBT).

The two companies have merged to create a new entity, JBT Marel Corporation, which began trading on January 3 on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Iceland.

Brian Deck, who now serves as the chief executive officer of JBT Marel Corporation, described the merger as a milestone following over a year of planning and preparation.

In a statement, Deck emphasized the merged company’s aim to innovate within the global food industry.

“The creation of JBT Marel Corporation is guided by our shared purpose, to transform the future of food,” Deck said.

With JBT Marel’s broad range of solutions, increased operational scale, and expertise in applications, service, and digital technologies, we are positioned to better serve customers across the global food chain.

Árni Sigurdsson, formerly with Marel and now the president of JBT Marel Corporation, expressed his gratitude to the teams from both companies who worked to complete the merger while maintaining a focus on customer needs.

“As we move forward as JBT Marel, our priority is integrating the businesses to ensure consistent service and deliver greater value to customers, shareholders, and stakeholders,” Sigurdsson said.

JBT Marel Corporation will oversee operations across various food industry segments.

The meat and poultry division will be led by CEO Brian Deck and integrated with JBT’s existing operations, while Sigurdsson will manage the fish division, operating under the Fish & Retail and Food Service Solutions branch.

The merger combines Marel’s expertise in food processing equipment with JBT’s experience in automation and technology.

The move is expected to enhance the company’s ability to serve a global customer base in the meat, poultry, fish, and food processing industries.

JBT Marel Corporation now aims to implement its integration strategy to ensure a smooth transition for clients and partners worldwide.
