Kenchic partners with Kenya Meat Commission to expand product availability

KENYA – Kenchic Ltd, a leading poultry producer in Kenya, has entered into a partnership with the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC), offering consumers the convenience of accessing the  Kenchic chicken cuts and capons at KMC shops across the region.

The collaboration follows Kenchic Ltd’s recent recognition by the International Chicken Council (IPC) as the leading chicken producer in Africa, showing the company’s commitment to responsible antimicrobial stewardship.

Kenchic Ltd became the first African business to implement the IPC’s antimicrobial stewardship standards successfully.

The recognition by IPC, along with eighteen other private sector companies, also underscored Kenchic Ltd’s dedication to ethical chicken farming and sustainable practices.

According to the processor, the efforts align with initiatives like the Transformational Strategies for Farm Output Risk Mitigation (TRANSFORM), funded by USAID and led by Cargill, aimed at minimizing the need for antimicrobial usage and ensuring responsible usage when necessary.

Jim Tozer, Managing Director of Kenchic Ltd, emphasized the company’s mission to contribute to a safer and healthier food supply chain, reflecting their commitment to consumers’ well-being.

Furthermore, Kenchic Ltd joins forces with six other international groups and two corporations, representing over 30% of the world’s grill output, in a global initiative to limit the use of antibiotics, addressing the concerning issue of antibiotic resistance.

Meanwhile, Kenchic Ltd in collaboration with partner Chloride Exide, has completed a transformative 1.32MW grid-tie solar system integration project at the Kenchic Processing Plant in Thika, Kenya.

This project, aimed at reducing the company’s carbon footprint, is designed to operate during daylight hours and is projected to generate 1,550 MWh of energy annually, offsetting 33% of the total daily energy demand.

The project was celebrated in a colorful handover ceremony attended by distinguished guests from various government ministries and local authorities.

Jim Tozer expressed gratitude to Chloride Exide for their expertise and collaboration, emphasizing that the solar power integration project is not merely a milestone but the beginning of a sustained effort to showcase technological leadership and drive positive environmental impact.
