Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL), subsidiary of East African Breweries Limited (EABL) has expanded its spirit category with launch of a new gin in the Kenyan market dubbed Tanqueray Flor de Sevilla.

The new gin with a 41.3% Alcohol by Volume (ABV) is characterized with zesty oranges and pink grapefruit aroma, with an underlying juniper and coriander notes.

It is a premium offering, targeting consumers that appreciate authenticity, sophistication and the enduring quality and style of gin from the House of Tanqueray by Diageo.

The launch of Tanqueray Flor de Sevilla comes at a time when the gin wave is exploding in the country coupled with changing consumer tastes.

“Consumers are looking for a trusted and quality gin that is easy to choose, and they are also exploring the drink that can be part of their conversations,” Ms Karuku said EABL Managing Director Ms Jane Karuku.

Last year EABL launched Chrome Gin, a second variant of its Chrome brand that introduced Chrome Vodka in 2014 targeting the millennial consumers.

This was later followed by the introduction of Gordon’s Premium Pink Gin in the neighbouring Uganda through the Uganda Breweries Limited.

EABL’s Marketing and Innovations Director, Graham Villiers-Tuthill stated that, “Today’s launch demonstrates our excitement to be the leader in the gin category in the country. Our desire and ambition to innovate has led us to flavoured gin category, which is growing faster worldwide.” 

EABL is continually revamping its gin portfolio with the goal for innovations to account for 20 percent of the business revenue in the next five years.
