GERMANY – KHS, a leading supplier of filling and packaging systems for carbonated and still water in PET has launched a new wide-neck PET container even as the demand for light-weight plastics continues to grow.

The new PET was realised from a further development of the InnoPET Blomax stretch blow moulder to offer faster, more variable and more efficient packaging alternative.

“This latest improvement enables preforms measuring up to 70 millimetres in diameter to be processed,” said Frank Haesendonckx, head of Sales and Technology at KHS Corpoplast in Hamburg, Germany.

The inside of the PET bottle is lined with a wafer-thin layer of pure silicon oxide, a barrier that functions to extend the shelf life of food products as compared to standard glass.

KHS says that PET and wide-neck containers were developed to address the growing demand in the food industry in particular, with this type of packaging steadily growing in popularity for products such as sauces, dressings and dairy products.

In addition, the company is also extending its Bottles and Shape program for distinctive bottle design as desired by food manufacturers in the food industry.

The stretch blow moulder can be blocked with other KHS systems – not just with the InnoPET Plasmax for container coating but also with the Innosept Asbofill for the hygienic filling of sensitive products, used in various applications including fruit, vegetables or cereals.

“We offer all producers of food and beverages in PET containers holistic consultancy from the design through technical engineering to production of their PET bottles,” said Haesendonckx.
