RWANDA – Kivu Choice, a leading aquaculture company based in Rwanda, has announced the appointment of Olivier De Vreese as its new Director of Operations.
This move is aimed at enhancing the company’s operational capabilities as it continues to expand its influence in the aquaculture sector.
Kivu Choice operates one of Africa’s largest hatcheries, boasting a monthly fingerling production capacity exceeding 5 million.
De Vreese brings over a decade of experience in environmental technologies and renewable energy, having worked extensively in both East and West Africa.
His most recent position was Group Operations Director for the largest retail solar business in Africa, where he significantly contributed to the management and expansion of operations across the continent.
Kamran Heinrich Ahmad, Founder and CEO of Kivu Choice, expressed confidence in De Vreese’s ability to drive innovative solutions within the team.
In a LinkedIn post, Ahmad stated, “We believe that Olivier will bring new energy and insights that will further our mission.”
In his own remarks, De Vreese highlighted Kivu Choice’s commitment to improving food security through sustainable fish farming.
“Kivu Choice is on a mission to democratize access to animal protein and enhance food security through sustainable fish farming in Rwanda,” he stated.
“I’m truly excited to work alongside a passionate team committed to driving impact and increasing the availability of healthy, high-quality fish protein.”
This leadership change follows the recent hiring of Sonny Francisco as Director of Aquaculture in June 2024.
Founded in late 2021, Kivu Choice has rapidly established itself as Africa’s fastest-growing fish farm and the largest protein producer in Rwanda.
The company is vertically integrated, encompassing feed mills, hatchery operations, cage production, distribution, and sales outlets.
Currently producing over 500 thousand fish meals each month, Kivu Choice is focused on sustainable practices while aiming to significantly increase the availability of affordable animal protein across the region.
