GERMANY – German packaging and bottling machine manufacturer, Krones has acquired MHT Holding, a PET equipment manufacturer for an undisclosed amount.

According to the company, the deal strengthens its PET capabilities through portfolio expansion and closes a gap in its PET value chain.

It also represents an upstream extension of the Krones portfolio into tooling for PET preform manufacturing even as customers increasingly demand such integrated solutions.

MHT, based in Hochheim, Germany, together with its subsidiaries is providing injecting molding tools and services to the PET industry.

With 125 employees, the company generates approximately US$28.33 million revenues.

MHT will remain headquartered in Hochheim and retain its current management team.

This deal and the acquisition of a 70% stake in Switzerland-based Integrated Plastics Systems in April will improve Krones’ PET competence and portfolio. Integrated Plastics Systems offers PET injection moulding solutions for the beverage industry.

Last month, Krones completed the acquisition of US-based WM Sprinkman, which offers engineered food and beverage processing equipment.

Krones said the acquisition enhance the capabilities of the “House of Krones” product portfolio in North America.

These include process technology solutions and bottling, packaging equipment, intralogistics, IT solutions, plastics recycling, and lifecycle service support.

In September, the company boosted its capabilities with the acquisition of the business operations and assets of China-based Shanghai Xiantong Equipment Installation.

The acquisitions represent important steps within Krones’ strategy of expanding its global footprint.

They further support Krones’ efforts to best meet growing local and international demand for customised process technology solutions.

Krones is the world’s leading manufacturer of lines for filling beverages in plastic and glass bottles or beverage cans.

The company manufactures stretch blow-moulding machines for producing polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles, plus fillers, labellers, bottle washers, pasteurisers, inspectors, packers and palletisers.
