SOUTH AFRICA – South African wine and spirits producer KWV has announced the acquisition of the renowned Red Heart Rum brand from Pernod Ricard South Africa.
This strategic move marks KWV’s entry into the rum category, further diversifying its existing spirits portfolio, which includes popular brands such as Cruxland Gin, Wild Africa Cream, and Ponchos Tequila.
Red Heart Rum, celebrated for its smooth and distinctive flavor, has long held a strong presence in the South African market.
As one of the country’s beloved rum brands, it has garnered a loyal consumer base over the years.
KWV, a leading name in the South African wine and spirits industry, is well-known for its distinguished brands, including KWV Brandy, Roodeberg, Laborie, and the KWV Classic Collection.
Commenting on the acquisition, KWV CEO John Loomes expressed enthusiasm for the brand’s addition to the company’s portfolio, highlighting its alignment with KWV’s commitment to expanding its high-quality offerings.
“We are thrilled about the addition of Red Heart Rum to our portfolio,” Loomes stated, emphasizing the acquisition as a key component of KWV’s strategic growth plans.
Founded in 1918, KWV has played a pivotal role in the evolution of the South African wine industry.
The company operates three distilleries and a packing plant, where it distills, matures, blends, and bottles a variety of spirits.
KWV also manages a wine cellar dedicated to producing high-quality wines, with its viticulture team overseeing vineyard practices across 54 farms in the Western Cape.
The acquisition of Red Heart Rum is set to be finalized on 22 August 2024, following the approval by the Competition Commission.
