Keohane Seafoodshas announced plans to expand fish supply to Lidl stores across Ireland and Europe. The new agreement includes fresh, frozen, and ready-to-eat products.
IRELAND – Lidl Ireland is expanding its long-standing partnership with Keohane Seafoods through a new supply agreement valued at over US$32 million (EUR 30 million).
The deal will see the West Cork-based seafood processor deliver a wider range of fresh, frozen, and ready-to-eat fish products to Lidl’s 184 stores in Ireland, while also exporting to the retailer’s outlets in several European markets, including Germany, France, Switzerland, and the Canary Islands.
Keohane Seafoods, which produces items such as Deluxe Whole Fresh Salmon and Deluxe Whole Salmon with Lemon and Dill, has been supplying Lidl Ireland for over a decade.
The company began working with the discount chain in 2011, initially offering limited seafood portions.
In 2022, it received its first large-scale contract worth around US$21.5 million (EUR 20 million).
With this new agreement, Keohane Seafoods will now distribute its ready-to-eat range alongside its existing fresh and frozen offerings, following the launch of a dedicated production plant in Bantry last year.
The facility, which supports new product development, plays a key role in aligning the company’s range with consumer demand in both the domestic and export markets.
Employment has also grown over the course of the business relationship, with Keohane Seafoods now employing 285 people between its Bantry and Cork sites.
Speaking about the contract, Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland’s Senior Buyer Emma Nolan said the company looks forward to continuing its collaboration with the Irish supplier.
Beyond product expansion, the companies have also cooperated on sustainability efforts, including the adoption of Prevented Ocean Plastic (POP) packaging across several product lines.
This initiative, which was introduced in 2022, is estimated to stop around 19 tonnes of plastic waste from entering the ocean each year, equivalent to roughly 750,000 plastic water bottles.
Since it was founded in 2010 by Michael Keohane and his sons Colman and Brian, the seafood business has steadily grown into one of Ireland’s major seafood processors.
The company’s increased production capacity and investment in innovation have been central to securing this latest supply extension with Lidl.
